What’s wrong with it?
DRIVELINE SEPARATION COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN PERSONAL OR DEATH.
CERTAIN ARVINMERITOR MODEL 17N AND 18N INTERAXLE DRIVELINES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN MAY 1 AND OCTOBER 14, 2004.
THE BOLT HOLES LOCATED ON THE EARWORK OF THE MALE SHAFT YOKES WERE MANUFACTURED WITH AN OVERSIZED MINOR THREAD DIAMETER.
THIS CONDITION ALLOWS THE BOLTS USED IN THE HOLES TO BECOME DETACHED WHICH, IN TURN, COULD RESULT IN A DRIVELINE SEPARATION.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
