What’s wrong with it?

THE INFANT CAN SUFFER SERIOUS INJURIES.

COSCO ARRIVA AND TURNABOUT INFANT CAR SEATS/CARRIERS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 10, 1997, AND JANUARY 31, 2000, INCLUDING SEATS SOLD AS PART OF A STROLLER COMBINATION.

WHEN USED AS AN INFANT CARRIER, THE HANDLE LOCKS ON EACH SIDE OF THE SEAT CAN UNEXPECTEDLY RELEASE, CAUSING THE SEAT AND INFANT TO FLIP FORWARD.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
