The short answer

NHTSA received COUNTRY COACH INC’s report on Sep 6, 2001. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 28, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE TIRES SELECTED FOR THESE MOTOR HOMES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE STANDARD. IN SOME CASES, THIS NONCOMPLIANCE COULD CAUSE PREMATURE FRONT TIRE TREAD WEAR OR TIRE FAILURE DURING NORMAL DRIVING. THE PREMATURE TIRE TREAD WEAR OR TIRE FAILURE COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.

CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 120, “TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS.” THESE MOTOR HOMES WERE ERRONEOUSLY ASSIGNED INADEQUATE TIRE INFLATION PRESSURES AND INADEQUATE AXLE WEIGHT RATINGS ON THE FRONT AND/OR REAR AXLES AS A RESULT OF MATHEMATICAL MISCALCULATIONS.

THESE MOTOR HOMES HAVE TIRE WEIGHT RATINGS THAT ARE LESS THAN THE FRONT OR REAR AXLE WEIGHT RATINGS (FRONT AXLE WEIGHT RATING:FAWR AND REAR AXLE WEIGHT RATINGS:RAWR) AND IN SOME INSTANCES HAVE INADEQUATE FAWR AND/OR RAWR.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
