What’s wrong with it?
IF THE HEADLAMP BULBS ARE INCORRECTLY ALIGNED, THEY CANNOT PERFORM THEIR INTENDED FUNCTION, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: MODEL 9007 AUTOMOTIVE HEADLAMP BULBS, PRODUCT CODES 20551, 22388, 26022, 26141, AND 47642, THAT GE MANUFACTURED BETWEEN FEBRUARY 4 AND MAY 25, 2001.
SOME OF THESE BULBS HAVE PLASTIC BASES WITH A PORTION OF THE MOLDED PLASTIC ALIGNED INCORRECTLY.
THE CONDITION ALLOWS THE BULB TO BE INSTALLED INCORRECTLY IN WHICH, WHEN OPERATED, THE HIGH BEAM WILL SHINE DOWNWARD.
THESE BULBS DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, “LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
