What’s wrong with it?

THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: FLATBED AND DUMP TRAILERS.

THESE VEHICLES UTILIZE GUNITE CORPORATION MODEL 2764 CAST STEEL BRAKE DRUMS AND A COMBINATION OF STEEL OR ALUMINUM WHEELS PRODUCED BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS.

THESE DRUMS BEAR DATE CODES BETWEEN “162 99” AND “225 99,” INCLUSIVE.

A STRESS CRACK IN THE METAL ON THE INSIDE BRAKE DRUM FACE DIAMETER CAN OCCUR, RESULTING IN A COMPLETE SEPARATION FROM THE BRAKE DRUM.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
