The short answer

NHTSA received HYUNDAI CARIBBEAN-PUERTO RICO’s report on Jul 7, 2000. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

IF THE CONNECTION DISENGAGES, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE INOPERATIVE. INOPERATIVE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAN CONTRIBUTE TO REDUCED VISIBILITY DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES.

THE PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT WHICH COVERS THE BALL JOINT CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR DRIVE ARM AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER DRAG LINK CAN STICK TO THE SURFACE OF THE DRIVE ARM.

IF THE RUBBER BOOT STICKS AND THE WIPER MOTOR IS TURNED ON, BINDING OF THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE DRIVE ARM AND DRAG LINK RESULTS, CAUSING THE BALL JOINT CONNECTION TO DISENGAGE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
